Season 8 Episode "Armageddon", Plot and Guest Stars of "The Flash" RevealedArmageddon is the Season 8 episode of Flash, which features five parts and stars Javicia Leslie and Brandon Routh.
We already knew that Flash Season 8 would kick off with five episodes; however, we now know a lot more information about the special, called 'Armageddon', as well as the impressive list of guests stars from the Flash-verse, who will be making an appearance.
Here's what the CW said in its initial announcement: Due to ongoing delays due to COVID production, The CW is working closely with its continuing series to ensure that episodes are released on time. However, it also recognizes that episodes may not be completed as fast as before COVID. To that end, the network is broadcasting five new episodes of The Flash, and Riverdale, this Fall — and then the shows will take a break, before continuing the rest of their seasons some time next year.
We now know the form Flash will take. It will be a special five-part event that starts on November 16th at 8/7c.
Javicia Leslie is Batwoman. Brandon Routh plays The Atom. Cress Williams portrays Black Lightning. Chyler Leeigh plays Sentinel. Kat McNamara plays Mia Queen. Osric Chau plays Ryan Choi. Not only that, but two fan favorite villains will be rearing their heads during the event: Tom Cavanagh as Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash, and Neal McDonough as Damien Darhk.
Particularly exciting for fans, the event will include several actors who have otherwise finished their time in the Arrow-verse: Routh, who left DC's Legends of Tomorrow last year; Williams, who wrapped up Black Lightning with Season 4 earlier this year; Leigh, who is currently on Supergirl, which is finishing its final run of episodes right now; McNamara, who was on Arrow and the never picked up spinoff series Green Arrow and the Canaries; and Chau, who was last seen in the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover.
In a statement to Decider, Eric Wallace, executive producer of The Flash stated that these episodes will be the most emotionally charged Flash episodes. "Plus, we have some really epic moments and big surprises for our fans. We're doing it on a larger scale than the Flash episodes. Armageddon will be more than a graphic novel story. This will be an unforgettable event for Flash, Arrow fans old and new. We are so excited for the audience to experience what we have in store.
If you don't know what Wallace means by "graphic novel storyline," the two previous seasons of Flash were split into what Wallace refers to as "graphic novels," i.e. Different storylines can be split into seasons but they still tie in some way. Fans of DC Comics Flash might be concerned that a pivotal and controversial graphic novel or trade collection from 1991, 'Armageddon 2001', written by Archie Goodwin, Dennis O'Neill, and penciled by Dan Jurgens, may have set off alarm bells.
This storyline shows that a DC hero kills every other Earth hero 10 years into the future, and that 40 years later, the Monarch, an armor-clad, mysterious ruler of the planet, takes control. Waverider, a new hero who was eventually named Waverider, traveled back to 1991 in order to find Monarch's identity and alter the timeline. It's probably because of what did not occur in the comic that 'Armageddon 2001" is best remembered. Monarch's identity was to have been revealed in the real world as Captain Atom. But fans quickly figured it out and the ending changed to Hawk, who is now being used on HBO Max’s titans. It didn't make much sense.
Despite all this, the Flash logline about Armageddon teases something quite different.
Under mysterious circumstances, a powerful alien threat strikes Earth and Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris(Candice Patton), and other members of Team Flash find themselves in an intense fight to save the planet. Flash will need the support of old friends to win the battle against the evil forces. With time running out and humanity's fate at stake, Flash must also enlist his fellow team members to help him.
Is Monarch the alien threat? Will Wallace and his company reveal their identity at any moment? To find out, we'll have to wait till November.
